Pali Puka Trail is a trail that is extremely short. It is an out and back trail with a small elevation gain of about 400 feet. It’s less than half of a mile, and is very close to the city of Honolulu. You will get to walk through a forest full setting, and you will journey to the top where you can get a very nice vantage point. Let’s go over what you will see on the Pali Puka Trail if you decide to take this hike which should only take about an hour.
Pali Puka Trail
What is unique about this trail is that it is a very short trail, but the incredible views that you will have are well worth the views that you will get to see. There are areas that are very steep, and there is a cliffside or pali that is quite scary to look at. You will go all the way up to the Pali Lookout which already has great views. You will head to a bamboo forest, up a ridge line, onto a narrow trail. You will probably have to pull yourself up in certain areas, especially if it has just rained, using the roots of trees that are coming out of the ground. You will arrive at a tall spire of rock called a puka, and there will be a flat area where there will be a hole in the lava providing you with a great view. This is the Pali Puka, a kind of a lookout that many people take pictures of once they arrive.
Careful On The Way Down!
Some people are apprehensive about coming down more than going up. It’s especially steep, so make sure you are wearing tennis shoes or hiking boots that are secure to your feet. It will take about two hours, mostly because you’re going to spend some time looking at the beautiful views including the Nu’uanu Valley. If you haven’t done the Pali Puka Trail before, it is one that you should certainly do once you get to Oahu in Hawaii.
