As you travel throughout the island of Maui, you may hear about Waimoku Falls. This is one of the most impressive waterfalls on all of the Hawaiian Islands, located in Kipahulu, a location that is on the Hana Highway or southeast portion of Maui. There is a clear sign indicating where to turn on the highway. You will then park your car and pay the $10 to go in. It’s going to be about a two hour hike total, but most people end up spending four hours or more because it is just so beautiful. Here’s a little bit about Waimoku Falls and why it is such a popular place to visit.
For some people, it has to do with the fact that you are near the base of the waterfall. It is a towering 400 feet. Unlike other waterfalls that are exceedingly tall like Akaka Falls on the Big Island, you are up above that one so you don’t have that power and majesty of flowing water before you. There are quite a few things to see other than the waterfall. There is a bamboo forest, and another waterfall that is also very beautiful called Makahiku Falls.
What To Bring With You When You Go
For most people, they are simply traveling down on a highway, and they take a quick detour. It is literally one hour up, and one hour back, and only 600 feet of elevation gain on the way up to the waterfall. When you go to Maui, definitely visit Waimoku Falls. Just look for information on the Pipiwai Trail hike. You should have no problem at all finding the waterfall. Just follow everyone else down the well-maintained pathway, and you will see the absolutely magical Waimoku Falls when you get to the end of the hike.
