One of the best things about traveling to Hawaii is getting to do a lot of sightseeing. One of the best locations that you can travel to is the island of Kauai and travel to see Waipoo Falls. Most people know that almost every waterfall that you are going to see will involve hiking to some extent. Some of them are just a few minutes away on very level ground, whereas others are several miles from the parking lot. For these reasons, you should consider visiting Waipoo Falls which is accessible on the Canyon Trail.
Waipoo Falls this is located on a moderately trafficked hike that will require about a mile and 1/2 hike to the waterfall itself. This out and back trail is not that difficult, and there are many beautiful views that you will see along the way. You will have to drive to Koke’e State Park in order to begin your journey to the waterfall. You will have to go on the Halemanu-Koke’e Trailhead. It is a substantial elevation gain for people that are not used to hiking, roughly 1400 feet to get there and back.
Why Is This Waterfall So Popular?
One of the top reasons for the popularity of Waipo’o Falls is that it is a two-tier waterfall, one that will drop just about 800 feet. You will be able to see this long before you start your hike if you stop at the Waimea Canyon Overlook. There is another vantage point at the Pu’u Ka Pele lookout, but it’s partially obstructed. The best thing to do is hike directly to Waipoo Falls. It is well worth the couple hours that you will spend hiking to this location. Plan to bring lunch, snacks, and plenty of water, plus your best hiking shoes for this hike on Kauai.
